It Happened For The First Time Today.

Postby wpgbrooks on Sun Oct 23, 2011 2:16 pm

Lmao! I'm sure you're wondering what the hell this post is about!

I was gassing up my K12S today when a random dude came over and was just absolutely in love with the bike. Thankfully, he was also an informed motorcyclist so he wasn't just asking "how fast is it?". Just kept saying what a beautiful bike it is.

I've read that this will happen with the K12S and the K13S but aside from the occasional auto passenger staring out the window of a car on the highway and being clearly impressed because he's staring at the bike (you know what I'm talking about...the PROLONGED stare out the window!), I hadn't had a stranger approach me yet to just compliment the bike over and over.

It's quite an experience and I must say that it gets me even more stoked that I own this wonderful machine!

Just thought I'd throw this post out there because I'm amongst a group of ppl who would likely appreciate it.

Later.

The best time for this is when you are parked amongst a bunch of Harleys, and the person comes directly to you, ignoring the others. Boy, it sure gets their goat when this happens.

Thats the best part of going to bike nights. And the old guys say that's not a BMW. Or I'm gassing up and someone walk's up and tell's me how it's such a beautiful new bike I have, then I tell them it's 4 year's old. Just give's me a big ole smile.

Good-onya'!

Every so often 'Bebe's' brutish bohemian elegance will transfix an onlooker. Yesterday while waiting at a light a young man on the curb yelled to me "That is the baddest-ass bike I've ever seen; What is it?"
I thanked him for the compliment, informed him of make and model, and then told him how this particular model had terrible sales numbers here in America. He shook his head in bewilderment, and I complimented him on his refined appreciation of moto minimalism.

I have to say - that bike gets noticed. Much more than the S. I had it for a week and loved it. It is amazing how couple of tweaks (shorted wheels base and gearing) transform sporty tourer into hooligan bike with looks to match.

I live in a small town (surrounded by curvy roads--yes!) and so about 1/3 of the time someone comments about my bike.

Always people say it's a bad-ass bike...not beautiful but very Mad Max-ish (if that's a possible adverb). Once I emptied out the Autozone store as the employees all gawked at it.

Despite its scarcity the BMW K1200R isn't as unkown as you would think; I've been shocked at the number of people who name this bike right off the bat. I even had an old lady at Walmart recognize--and name--this bike as the K1200. I just about fell over!

Curiously enough, my KR seems to get more attention from women than men. Not that I'm complaining :D

Isn’t it nice to ride a bike that is so appreciated by many and all different kinds of people? Same thing has happened to me a few times with the latest being at the AMA races in Sonoma. These 2 guys with one of the electric bike company’s that were there to race waited for me in the hotel café to come out to my bike to talk to me about it and how wonderful it looked.
Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling

Yes, going out on my K13R certainly makes for longer stops. There are always plenty of bikers wanting to get feedback about this beast and funny enough always assuming it is brand new. My fault for always keeping it clean and shiny ;)
Two things seem to stand out for everybody:
1. Duolever front end, and
2. The lean angle of the powerful engine :)
My problem is I can go on and on about all the other marvels of technology and comfort features of this machine!

+ ....
look, has no chain
and the rear wheel exposed like a car,
Has Led's , surely the electronics is the same as BMW cars,
Soft seat, I like it!
that wide rear tyre looks amazing!
What a painting quality!

and more advanced observers....

Oh!, hydraulic clutch,
This final drive is a piece of art!
Stainless steel exhaust, fantastic!
Look at the diameter of the clutch...
This frame looks like a rock!
