K1200S PURCHASE

Postby budamax on Sun Jan 08, 2012 9:55 am

I am along time rider seriously looking at a 2005 K1200s here in New Mexico. I currently ride a 2002 Honda VFR and am looking to upgrade to the k1200S. The bike is at the BMW dealership has 35,000 miles and looks to be in very good condition. It has a Sargeant seat and the factory sport bags, other than these items pretty much stock. I wasn't able to ride it yesterday but I am very interested. They are asking 6,995 for it which seems to be a fair price for this bike. The salesman said that it had the cam tensioner factory mod and that had been gone through in there shop.
My question to the forum members, are there maintenance concerns on this bike that I need to be aware of. I do all of my own service on my bikes and was wondering if this is doable on the K1200s. Any info would be greatfuuly appreciated....

Welcome.
Personally I would not be concerned about mileage, once the bike has been well looked after.
Just make sure it comes with a full service history .
Its a great bike, enjoy..

hi buda, welcome to the forum. we have the entire history of the K1200S on our forum. you may want to do a search or look into the Tech, Service & Maintenance section. the 2005 being the first year of production was more prone to hiccups than the later years. although we have members on our forum with 2005 that have not has major issues.

make sure all the recalls are met and since you are buying from a dealer it must come with some type of warranty.

the best years for the K1200S were 07/08 but those are of course more expensive.

That'll be a YES then.

If the dealer is franchised BMW and is prepared to offer you some serious back up then maybe if your a gambler, but if you were a friend of mine so you could give me grief over my recomendation :D ,I'd say walk away.
