I run IE8 and it works fine for me. The problem is simple security settings and allowing IE8 to consider our site safe and to run plugins.

I moved away from IE a few years ago and only use it now for testing purposes. Microsoft has ruined web surfing with over protection.

Firefox is the best browser for the web by far.

In IE8 do this:
Tools / Compatibility View Settings
then add our site to it. make sure you add the URL that you use the most.

Also, make sure on IE you allow plugins to run.

Well it seems that fixed the problem.... thanks... it is much better now! You would think that M$ woud be able to fix this kind of thing by themselves!

actually, it's not supposed to be an issue. MS is off the charts with their new browsers, they make them so overly complicated. this forum doesn't run any complicated software. You think animated gif, a concept that goes back to the beginning of the web, should cause a problem for a 2009 browser? anyway, glad you're ok now. S

Its quite interesting actually... it seems the browser stores all the gifs, not updating them while you are typing a message, then flips though them all after you post.... but the stored images just bog down the pc. maybe it is just my pc.... who knows.

I had IE7 for a while before downloaded the IE 8. IE7 never worked right. keep popping up warnings on most sites I visited. I have switched to Firefox a long time ago, but need to know how IE works, since I'm online all the time anyway.

IMO, IE7 sucked. IE6 was the worse. Now IE8 which comes with a lot of promise, again is making it more difficult for the average user to surf the web.

average user never goes into Tools. they just want a browser that runs well and IE is far from that. but they still have the vast majority of users.

I recommend Firefox to everyone. Start using it, even use on Network, corporate computers if you can. However, there are certain applications online that run better on IE. So, you still need to keep IE around.
