After you both riding this mod for a while, what is the general conclusion, does it provide more mid range power ?

Have either of you got both snorkles off or just the 1 ?

Have you riden in the rain yet ? Just a thought that if the snorkel tube is missing, would that encoruage water in to the newly released hole or does it stay pretty dry up there ?

I think if we have another rainly weekend, the actuator and both snorkels are coming off !!
Cheers

Howdy R1

My Acme ringpiece-dyno suggests there is more midrange. But in some ways I just don't care because it sounds so bloody lovely and has added some much needed character :D

I've only the one side off, and that's probably all I will do. The level of noise is about perfect. Not there at cruise but once you load her up - there it is.

I've ridden in light rain but didn't bother checking the filter (K&N) yet. In a few more thousand I have the 60k service (kms) so can have a good look then. Perhaps I can get a torch and have a look see. The opening is still fairly well shrouded, there is still the initial 20% of the snorkel attached and the opening is about baseball sized. Not exactly an open window if you know what I mean and it's pretty high up, well away from the mudguard etc. If it was good enough for Ken Zeller to remove both snorkels entirely when fitting up his filters, I reckon removing 80% of one on one side is a pretty safe bet.

Don't die wondering.

Went for a quick ride with the front 2/3 of both snorkels removed. This sounded louder induction wise but lost the character of a wrx I had with only one side removed. For me the best character is with one full snorkel and one with the front 2/3 removed. Cheers.

I fitted the Evo Filters in place of the existing filters and snorkles. The intake noise if much louder and adds character. The first time I opened the throttle hard in second gear broke my grip on the bars!! Exceptional mid range performance now and sharper acceleration. Very happy. :D

I found it to add midrange, but at the same time to be REALLY noisy. I mean obnoxiously noisy at WOT and annoying to myself wearing a quiet helmet and earplugs. It is completely overpowering the noise of my Akra. Maybe not so much an issue in the US or down under with plenty of space and low population density, but where I live there's about a 1000 people per square km so I wouldn't be making many friends.

Did the LHS btw, but that should not make any difference compared to the RHS. Maybe my BMC filters are more noisy to start with, as with both snorkels installed I have a very aggressive and addictive WRX type snarl coming from the air box. With 2/3 of the one snorkel removed, it's no longer a snarl, nor aggressive, just loud like it would be if you have a hole rotted in the downpipes.

I guess thresholds of what constitutes noise differ. I don't get the wrx thrumming sound unless I have one of the front 2/3 of a snorkel removed. Still loving the character this provides. It's not there on cruise, only when you load it up. Cheers

I know this is an older post but I was bored last night and gave this mod a try. I removed the right side snorkel. I am absolutely addicted to the sound of the bike. Everyone should at least try it to see if they like the sound. Noticed no change in driveability but when you open the throttle the bike now sounds the way it should have from day one, IMHO. At steady cruising speeds it is no louder than normal.

I removed both left & right sides tubes, yes it is much louder and a heck of alot easyer to get to the filters now too, those snorkle tubes are a pian to get back in place.

Why would you only remove one side????

No particular reason. Wanted to try one side out first. Next time I am bored I will remove the left side and see how it sounds. Its a sound mod for me so I wanted to try it both ways to see which I though sounded better. Between this and removing the baffle in the akra it sounds like a completely different bike. I used to drive a WRX so I understand exactly what people mean by a wrx like intake sound. I absolutely love it. Running stock filters (for now).

It's a hemholtz resonance thing to do with airflow. If you remove BOTH sides you just get lots of noise in general (too much I thought) and no WRX sound. Remember to keep the back 1/3 of the snorkel so you can still secure your airfilters properly. I have had this working for a long time now and still absolutely love it.

Best to run hot tap water (not boiling) through the snorkel before attempting to disconnect the front 2/3. Then it's pretty easy to do. Cheers.

+1!!!!!

The sound is intoxicating to me. This is how the bike should have sounded from day one. Just wish there was an easy way to mount the rubber piece back in so it looks uniform in the front but it is a small, very small price to pay.

Yes I kept the back 1/3 of the snorkel connected and have the baffle out of the remus, very loud now, so I can compete with Harleys

FINALLY tried this today and like the title says probably the best free upgrade you can do. I find myself tucking behind the windshield a little more just so I can enjoy that nasty low rumble at about 4500-5500 rpm :D I still have the stock can and I get such a kick out of how much louder the intake noise is than the exhaust. I'd like to hear how it sounds from a drive-by stand point. Maybe I'll have to get the camera out with .
