WGreen,
thanks, got the evo's and took out the db killer.... Big difference. I am going to try the ecu reset. By the way, does your bike, upon a hard decel, seem to have the the fuel practically shut off while the engine spools down? Letting off the gas is like hitting the brakes on mine. I think so unburned fuel does'nt load the engine up??? I still just love this bike, it is a bit unruley at low speeds. I do have a fix for that... I just keep rolling it on.. What CHP?

Slide,
I haven't noticed the gas almost shutting off but when I do come off the throttle the bike does decelearate significantly. I'll check this but what does happen is that the exhaust gurgles like crazy sort of a rapid backfire and that happened when the Remus was put on.

I talked to a fellow that tunes his own Subaru car and he says on his car the ECU only dumbs down the car and does not return to higher settings. His example was when he got bad gas one time and the car starting to ping and the ECU adjusted but he also could tell he lost power and it didn't recover after a few tanks of gas. He reset the ECU and the car then adjusted to good gasoline and the speed of the car returned.

All I know for sure is that the KS on about a 10 mile test ride with the EVO filter the bike was the same. Reset the ECU and wham the bike starting taking tons of air just by the sound of the intake.

this is the exhaust i was looking for
it's easy, sounds like hell  and is very small

bought it from eztuning.it, it is called ASSALTO and is based on a Akrapovic exhaust

PS - i did not perform a ECU reset. Should i do it?

I have a Remus Cone, much better sound than Two Bros or Akrapovic, asked the people who listen while I ride
According to the Dyno I am pushing 121KW, with sound insert removed, at sea level
A buddy with a Leo Vince regrets his purchase, compare the looks and judge
I heard that BMW do not approve Two Bros?
It is smoother at low revs with sound insert in
But take it out and go over 5000 .... smiles

I have a question for those of you that have heard a variety of systems on the K12R. I currently am running the 18 inch remus powercone. Honestly I don't really like the sound that it makes. I really miss the sound of my old Duc, but I know it's not possible to get that V-twin sound. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an exhaust that is more deep and powerful as opposed to the powercone, which to me sounds really buzzy. (run it without the baffles)

I have had a few different type of pipe on my 05 Ks but the one that i keep on there now is my cut down Akra slip on which is loud and deep and scares the shit out of people as you ride past, it also shoots a flame about 12inch's long on decel. I love It!!

Hey guys, its no contest for me.
Powercup Race can all the way. But to each, his own! :D
No matter where I go, people comment. Like wow, thats the best sounding BM I ever heard. I get that all the time.
I think it looks the best suited to the R.
Earplugs are a necessity but I always wear them anyway regardless so its no issue for me.

Hey guys, I'm new to this board, but I've had my k1200R for about 8 months or so (2006 model, bought it from the dealership at a discount :D ).

Had a couple questions regarding modding, since I'm pretty new to the whole modding scene. Obviously aftermarket exhaust is on the table because, that's what this thread is about.

I've been looking at exhausts but I'm not quite sure on some of the specs of a couple models/brands. I'm looking for as much horsepower/torque increase as possible (graphs are great) without jeopardizing too much long-term reliability (don't want it to break or overheat quickly), and I want the unit to be as light as possible. Anything that gives power in the mid-range acceleration is a plus. I'm not much of a fan of the shorter, stouter-looking exhaust systems. Regarding sound, backfires don't bother me (stock backfires too, specifically reving-down in 2nd gear), the bassier, more beastly sounded systems are better. Higher dB is not a problem, although ultra-high dB in the lower RPMs is not something I'm super keen on. I'm looking at both full systems and slip ons.

I'll rank importance:

1: Power to the rear wheel
2: Durability
3: Sound Quality
4: Design
5: Sound Volume

I've been looking at the Zard PowerGun Muffler (link: http://www.motorcycletyresuk.com/picsne ... mw%205.jpg <---goofy looking yeah, but the exhaust is what I'm pointing at) or some options from Shark (http://www.fechter.de/images/shark/shark_StreetGP.jpg) or maybe Akrapovic's evolution.

Thanks for your thoughts

dB-killer is still removeble, it sounds (my opinion) great and looks (also my opinion) great.

Vang,
Very nice end product!
Thank you sharing the evolution process. Did the can get noticeably louder when shortened?
Strapless id the way to go.

You should also check out the Remus Hexacone. The link below is the sound of my bike without the silencer and with the Hexacone (Baffle In).

I don't really have any good pictures of it because it has been raining cats and dogs here for over a week.

But here are a few.

As soon as the weather breaks I'm going to do a ride and post the sound.

Using BMW original made Laser. Took out the cat and db-killer in the back of the muffl..

I´m personally suprised over that the silecer take down the noise so mutch that it does. Partically thinking of that you can see the knee trough the muffl. back end.

I´l haven´t mine dyno tested yet. But i can feel a little difference in quicker response and maybe a little better acc. trough the whole register.

Have Evo racefilters too.

Greetings to all! Being new to the forum and also being the new proud papa of a "05 K1200S, I figured this is the time to get intros done and make one of my first posts. That being said, I have read thru all the pages regarding exhaust mods and have narrowed the field down somewhat.
I really like the look of the Remus powercone, but was somewhat disheartened by the post regarding quality.
Staintune claims more h.p. but still retains the "cannon" look of stock.
Leo Vince,Akropovic, and the like all have that sexy carbon fiber look to them, but again I'm not liking the posts on their finish durability/ quality either.
Due to my own budget constraints,(no, our president hasn't sent my stimulous check) more than likely I will opt for a slip-on.I realize that this discussion was started for the beneift of the K1200R guys ,but I am willing to use the input to my advantage as well. So,please post up mileage you have put on your particular system and if possible more pics.I am also going to buy an intake system from evoluzione(race), because more air is better.....Thanks for reading my ramble,
Cheers,Mac

I just installed the Leo Vince SBK. Sounds pretty cool with the baffle in. Take it out and it burbles and roars in a most satisfying way. Nice construction quality, and its small size shows off the K's wheel much better than that water heater-looking can that comes stock. This was pretty much the cheapest slip on I could find. Would've been nice to have the boss for the heat shield included on the connector pipe, which would cover the big gnarly clamp. I honestly can't tell if there's any difference in power, but it sure sounds great! I guess the only thing left to do is the PC3 install.

Has anyone tried shortening the stock water canon? If one shortens it properly, could one not maintain a good-quality build, better looking/shorter can, no cat, and do it relatively cheaply?

You should be able too. But you wont realise the full benefits without a dyno setup.

Just got my Akrapovic today. A bad ass looking exhaust. Gives the bike a little edgier appearance.

All this talk about exhaust upgrades, Not much has been said about the effect on fuelling. I bought a 06 K1200R from a BMW dealer which had an aftermarket can on The MPG was dreadfull was about 58 at the half tank mark put on the standard can. However have now purchased a MCE trioval carbon stubby exhaust,am hoping the oxy sensor is gona sort it out. Is there anything can be done without resorting to fitting a power comander
