Theres A First Time For Every Thing Right?

Postby Drifter1 on Wed May 09, 2012 10:53 am

This wasn’t really a crash however I dropped my bike this morning arriving at work, never done this before and it feels bad doing it for both me and the bike. Ho hum woe is me. It also got my new bar end and new brake lever

Sorry to hear mate, as they say, shit happens! Will you be getting a quote to fix all, or doing it yourself bit by bit?

Thank you for your condolence I feel better today after closer inspection of the Damage

I will be taking it in to the dealer for a look over to see if there is anything I can not see, and then I will be fixing/replacing parts my self as it looks to be all visual/cosmetic damage. Right panel took the worst of it and the clutch slave (I think that’s what it is) will be replaced as soon as possible. Remus can has a small scratch and dent, lower faring a little scratch, mirror small scratch I can all live with for now along with my brand new bar end and brake lever too came away with small scratches.

Bad luck mate, one of those things. As you note, it always seems less appalling the second day.

A friend of mine contends that the day you get a new bike, you should go out to the garage with a six pack, kick the bike over to get it done with and then drown your sorrows... Too extreme for me to be sure, but I can relate.

Doesn't look like a particularly expensive mishap; according to the fiche at Max, clutch output cylinder is $166.34 (though from the image, that one looks fixable) and the mirror body is $184.78. There are certainly more expensive bits that can be bent in a drop!

I just know how you feel! Did exactly the same thing on my identical bike during a very slow uphill right-hand U turn on my driveway - not enough speed and the bike just fell over... Similar damage, but Allianz replaced everything new for damaged, even though the standard ss exhaust had only a tiny mark which could be polished out, and the mirror had just the slightest mark.
About AUD $6500 (that side panel and the exhaust made up more than half of it), but I've not been penalised this year on my premium - I was expecting a hit on my policy cost. I did have a $600 excess to pay though, but the bike is as new again... :)

Got the estimate and a check made out to me and the dealer today, $4400 includes almost 8 hours labor. Will be like it never happened :D
Now waiting for all the parts to come in :(

You still got that damaged exhaust silencer? I know a soul here in SoCalifornia who could much appreciate a deal on such a "damaged" item

Yep, when I got mine back it was like getting a new one, even though the damage was very superficial - mirror assembly, brake lever, RH bar, bar end, side panel, RH belly pan panel, clutch thingy and muffler. Insurer was uncompromising about replacing damaged for new - the muffler & mirror could have been as good as new in 10 minutes but out they went! I haven't suffered any penalty this year as far as insurance costs go either, so I can't complain :).

The shop manager was not there when I picked up the bike and will I call Tuesday to find out where all my parts are, you would think I should get them all back right? Any ways I will let you know one way or the other.

I didn't enquire about mine, but I suspect the damaged parts become the property of the insurer once they've been replaced with new ones, as happens with write-offs. My guess is that the shop (or you) could offer to buy them for a nominal price from the insurer if you want them.
