hahaha

Well, update for this topic is, that insurance company decided it's cheaper to pay the value of bike for me than repair it. This Spanish system is different from finnish as they did leave the bike to me, but reduced about 10% from total value. I could have fixed it for about 5000€ myself, but i sold it. So no longer i have this 2008 HP2 Sport ... sniff.

The good thing is that i found one unused from north Spain and bought it. I should get the bike this week. After all i get 3 years "younger" bike with over 40 000 km less driven and earned about 500€... not bad. :P

Always :P

I forget to mention, that the old bike was crashed three times. Maybe it's a big shame, that other insurance payers buy me a new bike, but i'm not complaining.

I'm VERY glad that the damage is non-organic; Eka.

My wishes for a speedy recovery for the HP

Things I've learned from riding in the rain.

1. My braking skills are about a car times worse than a cars. And, yeah, I've crashed from braking.
2. You can slide out easily if you are off the throttle and leaning in, or on the throttle coming out of the turn.
3. If you ride through the turn with a steady state throttle the grip is remarkable. Even if the bike slides (like on paint or other slick spots) the slide will be gentle.
4. Even if you're paralyzed with fear just keep looking at where your supposed to go.
5. Riding on gravel roads and wet roads is pretty damned full so long as you have the right tool for the job. A KR650 is fun...and BMW K1200R is not so much fun but still fun.

You mentioned your Corsa's were pretty new. Did you get them fully scrubbed in before getting on the wet? I learned that the hard way on my LT, going pretty slow around a mountain curve, it just dropped out from under me. :?:

Those were less than week old tyres, but i had scrubbed those well in dry roads already. Just very poor wet grip as i have read afterwards some similar experiences. I don't know about new generation if it is better. At least it should be better at wet.

I just got new Michelin Pilot Power 190/50ZR 17.
For what I was told by my friends, the first 300km, you have to take it really easy on the tires, at the risk of sliding.

So, I took a 650km trip. With twisty roads after 300km, and the grip is AMAZING.
Well, probably some of you crazy people, can take that tire to its limit. Me, there will be chicken strips on the outer part...

Some call them chicken strips, some sanity or safety strips. It's not a bad thing to have plenty margin for error. We should all ride at a level we are comfortable with, and that will be different for everyone.

You don't have to worry too much about new tyres - certainly not for first 300km. Just be gentle first few kilometres, same level as you would treat cold tyres.
Regarding chicken strips, they show you lean angle but they are not at all measure of how fast or skilled rider is. In true what throttle has said - they should show you how "safe" you are.

No more chicken strips.

I took the bike to some of the roads with more twists in Nicaragua. About 400km in total, a few straights, but most twisties.

It's nice to see the rear tire worn properly all around!
Tonight I have to change my front tire though... it's gone! (and nicely all around too).
