I'm looking forward to your RSet review. Particularly do they add any buzzing and how the various positions affect knee comfort or "sporty tiding position" etc. :)

I'd love to see an in depth review of the HP wheels too if you can persuade Mr. BMW to put those on too. :)

I took the bike to the dealer (as an aside they loaned me a demo BMW F800ST - what a great bike, deceptively fast and very comfy) and of course it was working fine.

Maybe just a small glitch but something else that might be connected to damp conditions.

I'm guessing (hoping) that we may see our first software update soon - might fix these kinds of things, stalling, false TPM alerts and such with any luck - oh and another 10hp from 1000rpm up wouldn't hurt (or even better consumption) <G>. (As a thank you to all of the beta testers). ;-)

I've been following you review with great interest, today I could stand it no longer. I traded my 07 K1200R-Sport in on 09 K1300S. I have been asking the dealers in the area what color changes are coming in 2010, all three told me this week there were no new colors. So with the couple of incentives and the dealers willing to deal so late in the model year, I did the deal.
One question you might be able to answer for me, I too like the Sargent seat with the trunk storage. Will the seat for my 07 fit the 09?
Thanks.

excuse me to ignoring the previous e-mails, I just want to reply to one and then come back with comments on the HP rearsets and the 2D LCD MotoGP dash a little later.

MJZ, congrats on the new bike. the R and S do not share the same seat. so you're K12R-S seat will not fit on the K1300S, but a K1200S would fit. S

How could the ABS have been disabled and there be nothing on the bike warning that that was the case? How can any of us know, without actually locking the front wheel, whether our ABS is actually operational? Very concerning. Glad you seem to have Moto GP reflexes and are ok.

The normal dash has an ABS warning light, my guess is the 2D one has different software needed to show its warnings and as they did not load the new software, the warning light was not enabled. :( So the dealer's fault rather than the bike's I think.

Both videos are ok. That's one bad storm and one Bad Azz Bike.

nemesis: I'm looking forward to your RSet review.

The rearsets are on the bike and I've already made one adjustment to them. I am going to wait until tomorrow to take pics of the bike and do a video walk around.

The rearsets have 6 positions, 3 low and 3 high. It's a very beautiful set and weighs as light a feather. I rode the bike home with the sets in position 1, which is first low and found them a little lower than OEM. I have since placed them in notch 3, which is the second low position. More info and images most probably by Sat.

john crosby: How could the ABS have been disabled and there be nothing on the bike warning that that was the case?

Let me clarify a few things. this is a press bike. we often do experimentation and take chances that normally aren't done on a purchased bike. You need to keep all this in mind, otherwise if I sense that I am sending the wrong signal to the K1300 owners, then I would have to significantly modify my reviews. What I do with this bike, how I ride it and whether I decide to take the bike out with parts partially installed, or various options out of whack, is my own choice and no one else is to blame.

This is a very important point that should be clear. It's like one of those disclaimers you see at the end of car/motorcycle commercials: shot on closed road by a professional driver/rider, don't try at home.

A dealer would never send out a customer on a bike with various lights blinking on the dash. I did that by choice and only I am to blame for any consequences.

As for the lack of ABS, yes the bike wasn't ready to be ridden, but I rode it anyway. :)

Rocketier: That's one bad storm and one Bad Azz Bike.

I have a feeling there aren't too many K13 videos like that on the web yet.

don-01: I haven't heard this yet, but for a warning light to pop up out of nowhere is not too unsual, as long as it happens only once. if it happens on more regular basis there is an issue with the dash.

Jamie, geebee: thanks for your comments.

2D MOTOGP LCD DASH
Part 1

Look for a video review by tomorrow, because this dash deserves one. It's simply awesome. A couple of things that bug me about the normal Dash on the K12/13, there is no option to always have the clock visible, I mean you can leave on the clock, but if you want to see ambient temp, or RDC (tire temp), or average miles, or miles to emtpy you lose the clock. With the 2D the time is always visible. Also with the K13 there is no constant reminder if the heated grips are on. On the 2D there is an icon for low and high grips that stays on constant, as long as the grips are on. The K12/13 speedo is so crowded it's not easy to see how fast your doing. 0-180 miles and 0-280km is jam packed in there. The 2D gets a very easy to read digital speedo, which is just so nice.

You can do so much adjustability with this dash and you don't have to race the bike or take it to the track to take full advantage of the 2D. The dash looks just hot, it's incredibly easy to read in day time and at night it glows a white background light that's very cool and unusual.

There is so much adjustability on this dash. Also every single option from the normal K13 dash is available and visible on the 2D, including ESA II, RDC. Also the icons for the ASC and ABS are also visible.

This Dash is highly recommended. Look for another review on the 2D dash, plus pics and videos soon. Also, I'll cover the HP rearsets and their 6 position settings.

:) S

PS: Another flood warning tonight. But tomorrow Sat should be clear!

HP REARSETS:

Right side HP rearsets.
Image

Left side HP rearsets connected to the quick shifter, or Gear Shift Assist.

The rearsets are very light and beautifully executed. Initially I left them on the default low position, position 1, but found them too low for my taste and now they are on position 3. They use T40 Torx key for adjustment. Visually they make a nice difference on the bike, as they are very high quality and standout easily on the bike. However, there is one downside to these sets, they seem a little narrower than the OE pegs. So, if you have real wide feet (size 11 US+ and real wide), these may not work for you. On the other hand they work great for those with big feet. because of the 6 way adjustibility, you can easily set the distance from the pegs to the shifter and rear brake pedal. These would even accommodate a basketball star, as long his feet aren't too wide, just long. :)

As far as comfort, because both the OE and HP pegs are metal, they feel somewhat the same, although because the HP's are made for more aggressive riding style, they do feel a little harder. Keep in mind, once you're on the bike for a couple of days any difference you might have noticed with the OE sets will disappear.

The shifting is as precise as before, I detected no change to the OE pegs.

Cheers, :) S

This is my first walk-around video on the K1300S. I try to cover all the accessories that are on the bike such as 2D Dash, HP Rearsets, Akrapovic Canister, Sargent Seat, TPX Radar, Carbon Fiber Parts. You also get to hear the Akra, however, the bike was cold when I tried to rev it, so it felt a little sluggish. Hope you enjoy it. :) S

THE AGONY & ECSTASY? NOT EXACTLY
SARGENT SEAT STANDARD vs. LOW vs. OEM STANDARD

PART 3

The Sargent seat is getting more comfortable by the day. Granted when I picked up the seat it was brand spanking new and hence a bit hard, but now it has become quite comfortable. As I've mentioned above, I prefer the low seat because it seems to have more seating area and unlike the Corbin doesn't lock you in just one position.

Another rare beautiful day in NYC.

My next step is to do a proper performance review of this bike. I have gone over the features and accessories so far. Look for that coming up in a day or so. Pls feel free to ask any questions.

How do you guys like the videos so far? I am not too crazy about my walk-around video, I hope to do another one, a little better.

Let me know pls... :) S
