DAY 5- STAGE 2 - LA - VEGAS - BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS
Today: Vegas to Wendover, UT / Bonneville Salt Flats - 400 Miles or 645 kmI left Vegas late morning to finalize Stage 2 and get to Bonneville, to cover mostly what San Jose BMW is doing on the Salt. They are running several bikes, including a S1000RR and a HP2 Sport on the Salt. I did 400 miles.
I didn't think it would be possible to get used to such high speeds, but after 90 min on these roads, 100 mph becomes norm. These roads are wide open, and are in excellent shape. They are very smooth
These roads are made for K bikes. It's absolutely incredible how comfortable you can hit speeds of 150+. The Duolever front suspension, mixed with Paralever, mated to the specially long wheelbase keeps this bike totally planted. The K13S is a speed demon. And the brakes are truly awesome at any speed.
The image below is just to give you a hint of the state of nothingness, married to perfect roads. it's an irresistible combination. But be warned if you are planning to ride Nevada, make sure you have a good radar detector. I got hit by Instant On by 5 state troopers. None had the KA gun left on always on, they all used instant on and luckily thanks for Wayne's Adaptive TPX Radar and being hyper vigilant, I managed to keep the bike at and around the limit when I spotted them. The speed limit on most of these roads is about 70mph.
More to come. Time to get some dinner. Riding fast for very long periods is draining, because you have to focus intensely for long periods. But what a rush. Really I got such rush hitting 162 (on GPS) [260km]. I know our members red line in 6th gear routinely, but in many countries is damn near impossible to get seriously fast. Even in Nevada, although the roads are incredible, so is the weather, there is plenty of enforcement!
