Short Track Instead

Postby Rlmx on Sat Oct 22, 2011 10:20 pm

Had hoped to go to the 1/4 mile track. The "race season" is coming to an end here in the Midwest in the USA. The weather has not, and probably will not cooperate with Wednesday night test and tune (the forecast for this coming Wed. is for rain). So plan B was to go to Bunker Hill Dragstrip in mid central Northern Indiana. The track has open test and tune on Saturdays. But the track is a 1/8 mile track.

Well, at least I was consistent, even though I was consistently bad. Best time was a 7.121 @ 105.82 MPH. Top MPH was 105.91 for a time of 7.151. Outside of three jacked up runs, all runs ranged from 104.5 MPH on the bottom end, to the numbers above on the top. The worst run was 101.something. There were only 12 or so cars there. So I ran a boat load of times. After the first ten or so, all runs were in the 105 MPH (about 169 KP/h) range. I am 100% certain that the bike could run in the 6.5x range with a trained/experienced rider.

I tried spinning the wheel in the water box 1 time. It did work. But I think that it is too costly.

My KS is bone stock. I am 6'2" and weigh in @ 255 LBs. (I am sure that my weight does not help). The weather was awesome for running. 55 F/13 C no wind to speak of.Sunny day. Ran on pump fuel.

I've got to say that I doth my cap to you RLMX for giving it a shot.

13.5deg C probably isn't optimum either as the oxygen density is low compared to what I think is optimum (can anyone confirm ?) of about 6 deg c

Tyres will still work at 6degc air temp but the oxygen density will be higher ( how much difference there is between 6 & 13, not sure)

Other things that will make a difference is the track height above sea level, the closer to sea level, the more oxygen density and the length of the track as well, could you have achieved a better torque curve if the track was 1/4 mile long ?

Good effort that man for giving it a go.

What did you gave the quickest results with then clutch release / revs ?
Cheers

Jon

Direct translation is not possible. But looking over data at http://www.dragtimes.com, the 1/8 mile ETs on my girl could translate to low 11/high 10 second quarter mile times.

One thing I left out... There was an older gentleman there that had a team running a mini-dragster. He was coaching me and helped get that .01nnn esponse time. One cool thing, he said that I was shifting beatifully. I explained to him that it was not "me"; but the gearshift assist. That piece of equipment IS awesome :D

As for revs, I tried to leave @ about 6K. Elevation is 649 Feet.
