BMW was forced to find a way to keep an opposed twin because their loyalists demanded they do so. From an engineering standpoint, keeping that motor made no sense once they moved beyond air cooling.

The S1000RR is an amazing bike, but let's be realistic here. To get to the S1000RR, BMW bought every superbike available and then tore them apart. Do you think they pulled the geometry out of thin air? To not build a bike this way, by starting from scratch, would be lunacy. To claim Kawasaki is stealing design elements of the S1000RR is to completely ignore the 30 years of Japanese superbike development that preceded BMW's effort. The S1000RR is just another evolutionary step that will surely continue with each manufacturer contributing something new to already well established design and engineering principles.

Spot on ssduc - no-one is reinventing the wheel but building on platforms that have proven for years.
It is pointless to start with clean sheet, spend years and millions on development and end up with product that looks similar to current machines.

Kawasaki have announced prices for the new 2011 ZX-10R Which interestingly is £11,699 for the standard bike £1 cheaper than the all conquering S1000RR, higher spec model comes in at a heavy £12,699 as against similar spec S1000RR £13,050.

Kawasaki are doing a Honda VFR 1200 here IMHO unless the bike is stunningly better than the BMW I would expect the real world of the ZX-10R price to drop to £11,500 for the higher spec model.

One big problem the Japs have is the strength of the Yen V the euro, dollar, pound which makes their bikes very expensive compared to european bikes.

The ZX-10R 2011 incarnation surly looks very very cool. It actually looks better than the S1000RR to my eyes.

But there is not doubt that I would go with the BMer for build quality and quality of the electronic aids. The KAWAZAKI has to be a fair bit cheaper in order to make me look in this direction. But only time will tell what will happen.

ZX 10 R tested by MCN round Losial, they are going to test the S1000RR and the ZX10R early next year against each other should be interesting as specs are very similar.

Video about says it all Jo, suprise was Kwak came 3rd overall behind the fireblade.

On the track the BMW lapped in 1.46.78 and hit 162.3mph on the straight rank 1st
"""""""""""""""""""KWAK lapped in 1.47.00 and hit 161.7mph onthe straight rank 2nd.

So the S1000RR reigns for another year 8)
