Bernardo, you can still do this yourself, at least my dealer allows it under warranty, just keep receipts to show that the correct lubricants were used. Just did my rear axle on the weekend, it was $47 for 1 liter of the Castrol SF-XO 75W-90 that they say must be used. Oh well, one liter will be good to the 100,000km mark, as the capacity is 180 ml and the change is done every 20,000 km. Used their recommended oil (non-synth Bel Ray) and filter too, the bike just LOVES the fresh oil. No, I do not want to start another oil thread, sorry I said anything.

Bernado
Having just had a new final drive under warrantee, (paint bubbles found) - I asked the dealer if the oil should be changed at 1000km - just as it would if the bike was new.

They suggested that I either

a) bring it in for an oil change
b) leave it until august, when it will be done as part of my next service
c) change the oil myself

They didn't seem worried about which route I took.

I never do nothing with myself under warranty, perhaps is more expensive and boring, but if I have any problem with La Gorda, is 100% responsability of BMW /dealer. Works for me... :)

OK, better safe than sorry........ and by the time you will change the oil, the "how-to" will be refined to the nth degree.

Following the procedure to change the final drive fluid on my '06 k1200s, can someone please advise me if it is recommended to apply some kind of threadlocker (Loctite or something else) on the nut in the red box? Or instead replace it with a new one?
In another topic ("final drive & brake fluid") where the member BusanBeemer posted the pdf about this service, nothing is mentioned about this, besides the 42Nm tightening torque required for asssembly.

Thanks!
