Bad day at the Dragon

Hope the rider is OK. Kind of bad when you are already that far outside of your lane at the apex.

Really, it's amazing they haven't already. Those tourist dollars are addicting, though.

I hate the "Tail of the Dragon." Its an effin' moron magnet.

There's much worse there many times each year. The road is NOT motorcycle Mecca. The road is just another lousy road, with switchbacks and off camber curves. If it weren't for the greedy turkeys that promote the road, only a handful of folks would be riding it. At least that's how it used to be.

I didn't think it would ever happen, but North Carolina has banned trucks over 30' from US129 on their side of the state line.

If there is enforcement on the NC side, this should effectively eliminate tractor trailers from the run through Deal's Gap.

There will still be many problems on this road due to the high publicity it has received in the motorcycle media, but getting the tractor trailers off the road will be an improvement.

I wonder if RVs, or passenger vehicles with trailers totaling more than 30' will also be excluded.

This.

Never have I been so badly let down by a piece of tarmac (and assorted fools on it).

Oddly, there are much better roads in the same area which have almost nobody on them because every silly bastard is intent upon running the gap. They can keep it, overhyped rubbish.

You are correct. The only redeeming value I can see in the Tail of the Dragon is the fact that it is a moron magnet, drawing squids, looky lews, and LEOs away from the rest of the roads. You can have a lot of fun if you let US 129 work its magic on the other folks.
