Out of the Blue: purchase offer for my K12R

Postby mondrage on Wed Jan 25, 2012 4:41 pm

Wow,

One of my Harley biker friends, just out of the blue offered me to buy my K1200R...
He wanted a BMW, and he knows I take good care of all things mechanical...

What to do... my K12R has 70,000km on the clock...

If I sell it, i will be in the same dilemma of finding something decent for about $8,000 in the US, and then pay the 56% taxes here in Nicaragua...

Man!!!!!

56% ! Poor little lamb! Try 180% in Denmark !

Just to give a little perspective !

70,000 km is a nice number. how much is he offering you and why sell a used bike and go buy another used bike? if you like your bike and it's clean and it's paid for you may want to keep it.

He's offering $12-$13K

A friend has a sub-20,000km K1200LT that could sell for $12K... Or his 8,000km K1200S (blue) for less than $10k...

Either that or get a used GS... Can't buy new yet...
We'll see, good point though, I've already ironed out all the maintenance glitches ok my K12R...

The possibilities... What say you about the LT? Good switch?

My two cents ... er, centavos .. if you really like your K12R (like I do) because it's fast, sporty, carves up the corners, provides a little wind in your face, etc. then you're not going to really be happy with the LT. The LT, while a great touring machine, is still a pretty big old heavy beast of a bike. From reading your various posts over the last couple of months you strike me as having more sport bike fluid running through your veins (especially when you expressed such glee about unloading the Harley). Just say'n ...

Yeap,

Though EasyRider was my first and only bike for just under 2 months, I was glad to get rid of it. It took me almost a year.

The K1200R provides an exhilarating experience...
Just been taken aback for all the maintenance issues... probably they fall under the normal realm... I'm just on a short budget and this has been a lot for me...
- ABS unit: shot probably for brake liquid that was never changed. Bought it like this.
- Master and slave clutch cylinders: shot from some idiot pouring brake liquid to fill up mineral oil. Bought it like this.
- Clutch pack: normal wear. Lasted 68,000km (last 3-5,000 slipping).

So, I guess it's normal...

You are right.
What I want is to have the necessary ca$h flow to buy me the K1200LT and have the biggest and tech-laden bad boy in town.

Decissions.... (and lack of $$$) Jajajaja!

We'll see what develops...
