Airbox, gearbox, shaft drive, ECU, non-servo brakes...

Thanks Mirage. I was one of the lucky ones with my 2005 K12 and put on 60 odd thousand kilos and never replaced the gearbox. The 06 a friend of mine had need a box replacement at 30 000kilos.

Hope the 08 K12 will be good to me. 8)

Hi Jay, welcome to the forum :)

The model is in your VIN Number, as you said is registered in 2009, surely for administration reasons (generally customs ) at least in my country, but the last production was in 08 /2008 (http://www.realoem.com), so at all effect except papers, you have a 2008 model :)

It is fairly common - strip in fuel tank has to be replaced. Hope that will be covered under dealer warranty.

i've ridden my K1200S once and since then it's been back with BMW. some electronic part went and they have ordered it as it is uncommon. I have been zooting around on a loan K1300R from BMW. Nice accelaration!!! but i prefer my K1200S!

Will let you know wot part they replaced as soon as i have the bike back.

Sorry to hear you have the gremlins in, at least get them out the way while it's under warranty.

I had the fuel sensor go on my K12S. Worked fine one morning getting out of my garage. Went to ride off and no fuel and the warning light was on. No amount of shaking or switch off/on would bring it to life. I think BMW engineer it to fail so you end up going back as it's not an easy job to install and calibrate yourself.

I am sure once you get your bike back and get a few miles underneath you both you'll look back and be glad it went earlier rather than later. You can't help loving these bikes.

Hi friends,I've read that [quote] 'the K1300s is the bike that the K1200s was supposed to be'. I've also read though that by the end of it's 'run' (Aug. '08?) many of the bikes 'issues' had been addressed. That said; is the K1300s so very different from the last of the K1200ss'? Is there anyone here who has long-term experience of both bikes and can express a view? I'm tempted to buy a K1200s but (for instance) tails of (very expensive to rectify) suspension problems are making me a bit leary and since, because of my restricted buget, I would be buying privately, I would'nt have a 'Dealer Waranty' to fall back on. My current, much loved 'ride' is an '02 R1100s so any replacement has got some very big boots to fill. Your opinions gentlemen, please.

I know we love our bikes as we get used to them, but there is simply nothing special about the R11S. the R12S is a much better machine in every aspect (except touring, but the R-S is not a touring bike).

So, your question about K1200S vs K1300S has been addressed at least in 20 threads. please do a search and good luck.

no matter what you buy, post a pic and tell us about it. :)

"....but there is simply nothing special about the R11S." OUCH! That hurt. And I might add, is quite bad mannered. Good job we're not discussing my girlfriend here. But ok, I'm looking, specificly, for in-depth comparisions between the last 1200's and the 1300s and this site is a real maze. Sometimes it's easier to re-ask the question mate.

we don't massage egos on this site. I recently sold a K1200RS that I loved and miss, with 80,000 miles. But is it a special bike? does it require big shoes to fill? NO! It was a 640 pounds "sport" bike. There are at least 10 bikes that are better in every way than my old RS. But that was my own illusion and I loved the bike and forgave it for being so overweight and worse so costly to repair/maintain. It did have some things going for it, ultra smooth ride and an unusual design when stripped down from all the touring crap.... :)
