Topcase from F800ST

Postby Daxt3r on Sat Mar 24, 2012 2:49 pm

Okay, so I haven't found any original topcase for the K13S.
Then I looked at the one for the F800ST, and wondered if it would fit the K.
Anybody tried this? Is there a big difference in the brackets?

No it will not fit, the rack on the F800 is completely different!

I believe it will only fit the F800 and R12RT or K GT, one of those.

I figured, but wouldn't it be possible to screw it onto the K top bracket?

Hi Dexter :)

Only the original or dedicated aftermarket topcases will fit on your KS. Logically you can made an adaptor for F800 one. I don't think you can find that adaptor in the market...

I was told by local BMW dealer that because BMW do not make a topbox for the 1300S they do not recommend fitting one. I ended up bying a rack from SW-Motec and fitting a givi box. You can also use this set up with BMW panniers, and dosn't look too bad when box is removed.

I found a similar but slighlty larger one here.
I have inquired about the plate fitting the original top rack. If not, a few screws would do the trick.
I do find it strange that BMW would NOT recommend fitting a top case on a sport touring bike though..

Here's my solution. The equipment is as follows:
* SWMotech Alu-rack Toprack
* SWMotech Quick-locK
* Besteem T-Box 2008

The Bestem fits my medium Shoei (Qwest) and Aria (Quantum II) helmets with gloves etc. These are inexpensive cases that come with a mounting plate. Works great for running around town. I might get a larger one for longer trips. On longer trips I use a waterproof bag inside (better safe that sorry).

Hi guys,

Constrained by budget, I went for a cheap but effective solution. I have a Kappa topbox I bought from a mate some time ago and I didn't want to spend a load of money on the 'proper' equipment so I went on the internet and managed to get a Givi rack and platform for £25. It was actually for a Z1000 but I always think 'How hard can it be too alter?' As it happens, it wasn't too hard at all. Sorry I don't have any pics of the work in progress but all I had to do was cut the rack arms down a bit as they were quite long, I was able to use the fixing points for the grab handles (which I took off) to mount the rack so it looks spot on. I had to put some spacers in where the rack plate mounted so it raised the angle higher but when on it looks like it was made for KS and doesn't look too obtrusive. I painted the lid of the top box white and add some graphics to tart it up and was pretty happy with the overall finish.
