Pothole

I was riding to work in the early morning damp and dark.
Some guy was way late seeing his off ramp and probably did not see me at all. He just turned hard right from the fast lane right into me.
Pic is results of motocrossing my K1200s off road after he hit me. I did not crash, but certainly should have. Front tire not going flat was the saving grace.
Michelin just got a lifetime customer.

Sorry about your rim, but is nothing compared you are OK , I think you must change the tyre, by other MIchelin...

btw, where are you from?, perhaps you can fix the rim, if there are good repair shop

Please add location to your profile and welcome back by the way. sorry to see this. But you got way lucky, you should celebrate that you walked away with only a bad rim.

you can fix that rim, or get a new one. new rims can cost as much as US$900. Fixing is about $200. The safest would be to change the rim, but in my experience fixing will work just fine. Good luck and don't forget to add location.

Thanks for the concern and suggestions.
I called around and there is a place close to work that will straighten it for $120. SJBMW will replace it for $800 including labor but not the tire. When I get the tire off I am going to inspect it and make a decision. I looked at it carefully while still mounted and see no cuts. The tire is still holding air but could have internal damage to the plys.
I was unable to convince Wifey this damage is a total and I should buy a 1300

Fact that you had no pressure loss is good, damage on the rim is not that big and tyre doesn't look too bad either. As Bernardo mentioned, maybe you can replace it for a piece of mind (specially if you ride hard and fast), otherwise just monitor before or after a ride for a while (I do it all the time, both rear and front).

BMW rims are made of cheese it seems. Apparently, in the past they had some complains about wheels cracking with these types of incidents so somewhere in the 90's they changed the alloy of the wheels. They don't crack anymore, but they sure bend real easy. Both my K and my R have dents in them due to potholes, though not as much as these pics show. They hold air just fine, so I don't bother replacing them, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Found a guy in Napa to straighten the rim. Will post "after" pics next week. He said he gets a lot of work and the soft rims are much better overall. They often hold air after a bend where the old stiff ones cut the tire and insta-flat. Less crashes and less cost (rim straighten $120, new tire and rim $1000).

Is the idea , if the rim is more "plastic", absorbs the energy of the impact and have no cracks, Exactly what happened to DOA. Cracked rim is the worst thing that can be happen.

Final on rim:
I took the wheel off, leaving the tire and rotors on, and headed up to Napa for Gerry Piazza at GP Frame & Wheel to straighten. I made an appointment for Saturday and told him it was too far to drive home so I would wait there or in town. Gerry is a class act, very professional. He helped me understand his process and the limits of repairing a rim. Originally the wheel was over .250" out of round but between spokes so Gerry was willing to fix it. Evidently that much bend on a spoke is not repairable. The hard spot where the spoke joins causes problems. The tire showed no damage.
Two hours later I was on my way. The rim within .005, tire mounted and balanced, $140 out the door. Only small blemishes show where the rim was bent which is a testimonial to Gerry's skill. His heat control is very good, enough to make the bend but not ruin the paint. I have worse marks on my rims from sloppy tire changes.
I put a couple hundred miles on her and all is well.
