Standing still? Or moving? If moving is it at a specific speed? Or just specific RPM?

I don't know the level of vibration you have, but is normal, specially if the bike is new.
You can find a lot of information here:

"rattle & vibes" viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11452

btw I moved your thread to Tech, service and maintenance section...

Yes, if you ride for half an hour - if you ride for few hours daily, then it's not fun any longer.

Hi Mirage ZA,
Isn't there a speed limit in your country? Six to seven k relates to speeds in 6th gear well beyond most european limits (except for certain parts of the Autobahn). Must be great to go over 160 km/h and faster for hours and hours without the fear of losing your license.
I have to make a 90 minute drive to get to Germany before I can get up to serious speed.
Anyway, my bike does vibrate in this rev-bracket but becomes very smooth again once past 7.000 rpm

Get some "grip puppies" (google them), mine cost about £15 inc shipping in the UK.

I have a 10 month old K1300s just clicked over 6500 miles. The vibes do occour between 6k and 7k, before and after in the rev range no vibes. They do dull down a bit as your milage increases. However I found that when I changed from winter gloves (nice and padded) to summer (leather skin only), I got some numbness in my hands due to the vibes. Fitted the grip puppies which completely solved the problem, vibes now very minimal (hardly noticable).

Not sue if this will solve all your problems but for the cost it's worth a try. They are easy to fit, just slide on over existing grips with soapy water. No need to cut them or adjust existing grips or the grip puppies. Yes, the headed grips (if you have them) still work through the grip puppies. The grips will feel more chunky but I got used to them very quickly and now prefer the feel.

Edit: Noticed you are in UK so get from here http://www.sportouring.com/gallery.php?sectionHeaderActive=1000&rangeChoosen=615 cheaper than getting from amazon (same supplier).

Good news and bad.

The good news is that you don't have a problem, cos the bad news is they're all like that. Mine is even worse with Helibars as some of the handlebar damping is removed. I'm just coming up to 12000 miles and 2 years, and I only just "discovered" it a few months ago, after starting to ride the bike harder to try to stop oil consumption. I'm now riding between 6000 and 8000rpm instead of between 3000 and 5000rpm, and am quite amazed at the vibes that kick in, through the bars, the footpegs and the seat.

I love the bike for so many reasons I don't complain about it, but unfortunately it does seem to be a dominant characteristic of the engine.

Of course there are speed limits and they are very strict, lots of cameras everywhere. However, South Africa is very big place and once you're out of metro area there are many roads where you can open up and keep it like that for hours. Basically you stop when your tank is about to get empty. On my bike safe distance at that pace is 250km. Lately, most my trips are touring - I work on covering 2000km in 3 days (leave Friday, come back home on Sunday).

Also if you rev down through the gears (which sounds especially lovely with the Akro sans baffle) while using the engine to slow, you will be using the 6k-7k section of the rev range while being well within speed limits.

Have a read of this thread, around 60% of the way down - http://www.i-bmw.com/showthread.php?t=29160

Appears to be a washer that vibrates against the starter clutch...Cheers.

Must be wonderful! What is your average speed that goes with that milage?

Hi kpavey,

I replaced the washer with a home made one. It eliminates the annoying rattle when decelarating from 4k to 3k rpm but does not seem to influence the engine vibration between 6 and 7 k very much.
By the way: in the picture the inside diameter of the small washer looks larger than that of the offending BMW washer but that is not the case. In fact, the oversized diameter of hole in the original washer is the cause of the part vibrating on its axle under certain conditions. Removed from the engine the big washer makes a tingling sound when you tap it with a fingernail so one can imagine what a racket it makes when it starts vibrating against other parts in the engine. The smaller replacement that fits correctly on the hollow axle cured this. (Pictured is the axle with the puller still in it.)
