Tribute to Daz Lassey - We lost one of our Own

Postby r1 Convert on Thu May 03, 2012 6:06 am

Whilst riding in the Scottish Highland on Tuesday 1st May 2012 (which was Daz's Birthday), Daren Lasey, my best friend and a fellow K13S rider lost his life.

For those who have attended the annual GSS, Daz has attended the UK version for the last 2 years.

We were travelling along the A86 back toward Spean Bridge, he took a corner and crashed in to the near side of an oncoming van.

Daz you were mine and many others best friend, you would help anyone with anything and would happily come 2nd in any situation to make others feel better. You are a true loss to our group and your very wide circle of friends.

TBH, don't really know what happened, the van looked to be in the correct position. It's like Daz has gone round the corner and not straightened up.

Very experienced and safe rider, riding since he was 16 or 17. Doesn't make any sense at all.
Cheers

all it takes is a blip in your mind or lose of focus when you're around a bend and off you go into the scenery or other vehicles. It's terrible and can happen to anyone. The best riders crash like anyone else. it happened to me once back in 2001 on the blue ridge parkway, and luckily I saved it and rode the bike back on the road. but I got lucky in many ways, there were no other vehicles on the road, I didn't go flat or nor did I damage the front rim when I did go off the road, and neither did I go down, nor hit a rock or tree and there were plenty there. I just downshifted and pointed the bike back to the road and basically rode over shrubs and plants back onto the road and didn't stop to check for traffic. so, luck was on my side that day.

Thanks for the messages guys, really cant believe its happened myself, its taking a while to sink in that im not going to see him again.

If this can be a warning to anyone to slow down, it should be. He was the most technically correct and most experienced rider i have ridden with, if it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone !
Cheers

That's just shit news Jon.

Absolutely gutted for you, know precisely how it feels.

By the look of the images he was a bloke who at least got maximum enjoyment from his life, better to have lived short than have simply existed for a long time.

Jon,

Just read this.
I can't express in words how sorry I am.
I didn't know him, but he's one of our own, and I feel his loss.

May he be in a better place, and he passed away doing what he loved the most.

My deepest condolences

Eyvind
