need some advice for riding in hot weather

Postby paisith1977 on Mon May 14, 2012 2:09 am

Hi,everybody.
I'm sorry if this issue seems idiot.
I got K1300S(2011) from dealer on April and I rode it just 1,000 km.But a problem is since I've bought new boots (Daytona Airflow GTX)
and used it for riding.I found that when I riding my right foot(at a heel) is burned by hot air that blow out from engine and I feel sore so much.
:(

I don't know who have same experience and how should I do? (my speed is around 120-140 km/h not too fast and real feel temperature at 36-39c).

Have any device for protect this?
or the weather is too hot for riding?
or its wrong riding position?
or I should buy new boots?(but I really love my boots)

Thank you so much.

I think you should try some other boots. I have Sidi boots and have never had a heat problem on my K13s, even in south Texas (42 and more) slow traffic. Odd that it is one side only, which makes me think the boot is too tight or something. I also use Techsocks, they keep your feet cooler in the heat and warmer in the cold.

Thank you skapan :thumright:
I will try Techsocks as your suggestion.
Could you recommend one for me?

BTW I think there has something wrong with my boots, not too tight but it lets hot air through over than I need. And now my heel become
swell and inflammation.I think I can't ride my Blue Angel at least two weeks.

Just a thought, but the exhaust clamp between the can and the link pipe is around the area of your right heel, you may want to check that it is fitted properly and that there are no leaks/holes blowing exhaust gas onto your boot!!!! :?:

Now it definitely sounds like there is a problem with your right boot. Perhaps the seller could help you?

The socks I use are "Techsox" made for motorcycle riders, in both low and higher lengths. They are made here in Canada, but I'm sure you could find an equivalent in your area.

I think if there is an exhaust leak you should see some heat damage to your right boot. Good luck!

Hi Paisith :)

As I can see in your city you have in May a temp 35°C as normal, perhaps you must think in summer/ventilated boots....

or its wrong riding position?

Simply use a light or tennis shoes and feel the temperature "in direct", you can check it

After I check exhaust pipe clamp is nothing wrong. :(
Even I rev engine for couple minutes. It doesn't have exhaust leak around pipe connection.
Perhaps only thing that I can do is waiting for my wound gets well and I will try to ride with new sock and other boots again.

I have never experienced any discomfort like you are describing. Something must be wrong, don't think it has something to do with your boots. Even with normal shoes you should not experience any heat from the exhaust or engine.

Something does not seem right. Are you sure that it heat causing this problem? Does your heel feel hot when you ride? When you ride does your heel touch the pipe? For your heal to be blistered and not a mark on the boots seems strange. I have ridden my bike a few times in my work loafers (I know, bad form....), and have never felt any kind of heat.

I'm not saying that it's not, but that heel doesn't really look like a burn to me. Are you sure it's not a blister from your new boots?

Mate, go see a doctor :) bike and boot looks fine. It must be the fit of your foot inside the boot. Let the wound heal, then try different boots and see if there's any difference. Hope your foot feels better soon ;)

Thank you GJB, ssduc, k13rseman :D

I'll get better in soon..I hope.Because I can't wait to ride my bike in this weekend.

After I consider factors that it can be possible.I think my boots maybe a root cause.

I wear my new boots only 2 times for riding in a few hundreds kilometers and as you said I may get that blister from my new boots.

and How about right foot position? if you see my picture,Should I move my foot backward to put my tiptoe on the footrest more than this?

Agree, not the heat but the new boots causing a blister. All seems fine with the bike

I would see a Doctor. I have a hard time believing that even a bad fitting boot would do that amount of damage without being apparent. It may be something totally unrelated. Regarding foot position, Ideally riding on the balls of your feet is best, but do what ever is comfortable, no big deal....

If I can just recommend that you look at some mid low cut boots, they are fine also
like this http://www.bikebiz.com.au/product_image ... 3_zoom.jpg (Alpine Stars SMX2)
i prefer these to the big cumbersome full lenght boot.
Also a new boot will require some time to loosen up and adjust to your foot.
Anyhow fantastic bike and yes I loved Thailand when I visited there last time..
Maybe you could provide some good photos of landscapes and include your bike..

I wish you all the best and full recovery from the heel problem.
Thanks

I rather sure that root cause is my boots.Maybe it still too tight for my foot.I think If my heel get well I have to wear it more frequency.

BTW It hards to ride K13S in Thailand.Because of road conditions are not good. There also have a few places that K13S can go without any anxious [smilie=062802moto_prv.gif]

My suggestion would be to rest your front of the feet on the peg, - do not let the feet hang on the hells on the boots. This will also help you to squeeze the tank with your thighs in order to support your upper body and take weight away from the wrist.

Thank you thebigblue for your suggestion :) \

After my heel got well , Last Sunday I had a short trip in Thailand.
I tried to relax while riding , didn't nerve about it too much and obviously I didn't feel any heat or painful during 300 km.
I changed my socks, riding in high speed than before, adjust my position in a little.
There have no problem anymore.

and let I show you some of beatiful place in Thailand, Thank you everybody for suggestion
(PS. after this my K13S is falling because of parking in wrong position  ....I think I'm so idiot)
