we need to be careful selecting dates. For example we don't want to have a conflict with major rallies. BMW MOA Rally this year is July 19-21.

So, we certainly need to get members' comments on best dates, specially those who intend to show up.

Bernardo, are you going?

Throttlemeister is the Rally Chair, so he really will be running this and finalizing the dates. :)

Just an idea, you said later July, if I'm not wrong, but is almost the same for me.

Bernardo, are you going?

in terms of probabilities, may be 70%. In terms of hope, 100% :)

btw, South world is a bit different, we have short winter holiday in July, In Argentina we have 2 weeks starting from July 6.

That's too late, but we'd be in the middle of holiday traffic and difficult to find hotels.

That time of year should be between June 16 and July 13. After that all hell breaks loose as the entire Europe goes on holiday.

so, we are almost there, we have set aside 7 rally days, and have roughly the time of the month.

How about Monday to Monday June 17 - 24, 2013 or Sunday to Sunday June 16 - 23, 2013.
Also, the following week.
Mondays June 24 to July 1st, 2013
or Sundays June 23 to June 30, 2013

You missed the two weeks in July.

My personal preference would be first week July. This would yield the best chance of good weather, plus it allows people to add time before or after without getting into trouble with vacation traffic or closed passes due to snow.

Exact duration will be decided later; will have to look at my maps too to see how I can fit what and where. I have some ideas, but I will get to those later.

God, this looks like fun!
I`ve allways dreamed about riding in the Alps. If by some chance santa drops a K1300R on my dorstep next christmas, I`m there! ;-)

Just a heads up; try to stay clear of the weeks the general poluplation in the Alp region are on vacation... It might be a bit "trafficy" then.. Oh, and some of the Norwegians I know who have ridden the alps in the summer, heartly reccomends Cortina in northern Italy as a brilliant starting point for daily riding excursions... ;-)

Have a good one! :D

Bummer that it's in 2013! I'm in the US military, and I'm due to rotate out of Italy in July of 2013....figures! :-) Guess I'll just have to ride them myself during this summer. Maybe I could get a little bit of an extension or something. This trip sounds awesome!

By the way, Cortina is a really, really nice place to start. Let me know if you need any advice on the planning portion in Italy.

I think it's only fair that throttlemeister 'takes the lead' on this as he started the thread and agreed to look into it if enough interest was shown. I am not sure exactly what needs to be done at this point.

Saying that, I will be making own Alps trip this summer, (my first Alps trip!) so will 'scout' the location, so to speak, for passes and routes that i think may be worth visiting, but there members on this forum who literally live on the doorstep of the Alps and know the area like the back of their hand.

Really? I guess I wasn't informed about that. I did check my email on my vacation.

Timing is the only critical thing for me. I'm leaving Italy in July of 2013, so anything around May or early June is good. Earlier is better too so that you're not trying to contend with all of the tourists. Can't wait to see how this all comes together!

So from the looks of the positive posts here, we have a decent number of members up for this Rally.
This is great news. :D

Hi Guys,

If you go ahead with this late June / early July 2013 I will most likely join you all for a few days.

Great idea.

Soof.
