Sneak peek.... [Remus Hexacone full]

Postby 2K9K on Tue Jul 24, 2012 11:15 pm

I dont get on here too often, mostly because I always see something new I want for the bike.

My K: Bought it new in 09'. Was told it was the first one sold in Phoenix, but who knows; good sales tactic?

Anyway, bike has been flawless, sans the issue I had when hitting a Dove at about 130mph. Cost me a new headlamp unit. Im pretty sure I posted up some pics right after that?

Been riding for 20yrs and this is by far the best bike, in every category, I have owned. Believe me, I ride this thing like it is supposed to be ridden, one 2000mi trip and a two 1000mi trips, my daily commuter (to include those 110* days here in Phoenix: with full gear, always) nor do I take any crap from anybody on the interstate (**providing its safe to do so**). Im certainly not afraid to drop one and pin it. But, I digress....

As with every other bike/auto I would normaly swap out the exhaust-intake right away. Decided not to on this one, primarily as a fiscal matter. All Ive done to it is BMW tinted screen and BMW led rear turn signals. Oh, brighter lights too.

On my 4th set of tires, right at 38K mi on the bike. Took it in for the 36K service last week. Fortunately I know a certified BMW tech, former BMW dealer mechanic who now has his own small business. As Im dropping the bike off there is a big burly guy, thick Eastern European accent with a new and beautiful Ducati Diavel.

We all get to chatting and the big guy is telling me how he just traded a K1200R in on the Diavel, also has a new V-Max and seemingly an avid rider. Prior to giving up the K1200 he took off all his go fast goodies, one of them being a Remus Hexacone full stainless system, that he had the can shortened for a better sound (Ihave yet to hear it). Long story short he offers the exhaust to me for pennies, how could I not buy it. I know what they are new, roughly, this looked as good as new, and I got it for like I said, pennies.

So the mechanic says he wont charge to install it because the bike will be apart anyway, score number 2. Especially considering he's only charging me $550 for the 36K service and brakes (I went to EBC to save a few $$). I think my 18K service was that much at the dealer and for half the work?

Anyway he sent me a teaser pic tonight, as seen below....

Then I stumbled on this earlier... Is this guy crazy? His "starting" bid is what I just paid for a full system.

So I got a few miles in this afternoon with the new exhaust. Here are my first impressions:

I love the sound, love the look. The bike now lives up to its tag: UBER K

Baffles are in now, may try without this weekend, but pretty sure Ill end up keeping them in.

I honestly want to say I can feel a weight difference on the bike. The OE can is an absolut rock!

I definately gained some performance. Crisper throttle and makes more power down low....its almost like I found a new gear.

I cant imagine how PC and race filters would bring it all together. Will be looking into that, not till later though, doing a 800mi in 2 weeks.

Yes, Special-K..... I am a happy chappy.
