S1000RR delivered

Postby redwingz on Mon Apr 12, 2010 4:16 pm

Hi all,

I picked up my S1000RR on April 3rd and can't believe I how lucky I was to get it so quickly. I gave the dealer my downpayment on March 30th and had the bike 4 days later. And to think I nearly cancelled the order on April 1st! I'm so glad I didn't back out of the deal. I was hesitant to go through with the deal because I bought a Yamaha R1 only 3 weeks earlier. Now that I've taken delivery of it and experienced the ride I know I made the right choice.

I installed a slider kit as well as the Motorad rearsets yesterday but due to the weather I didn't really have a chance to ride yesterday. The bike is equipped with DTC, ABS, and Quickshift which I highly recommend for anyone cosidering the S1000RR. They are well worth the extra cost. Due to a minor problem I had with the transmission I was only able to put 186 miles on her so far. I can't wait to get the 600 mile breakin behind me. Even with the limitation on the RPM I'm amazed at the power this bike has. It reaches 100MPH so quickly it' leaves me speachless. I haven't done a comparison of the RR against my '09 R1 yet but my seat-of-the-pants comparison says the BMW easily beats it. I still like the R1 because of the amount of low-end grunt it has due to the cross-plane crankshaft, but when it feels more tame than the RR. Who knows, I may end up selling the R1 if I find I'm not using it enough to justfy paying the insurance premium.

As for future upgrades to the RR, it suits me just fine as it is right now. I ended up putting about $10,000 into the last bike I had (HD) just to get a slight increase in HP and TQ. I certainly don't feel the need for more power with this bike. Even on the track I can't anticipate needing more of anything.

I hope everyone who's still waiting for delivery gets their's quickly. Had I passed on my opportunity last week I'd be kicking myself in the butt right about now. My dealer (San Jose BMW) was nice enough to keep my purchase on hold during my breif period of indecision. I can't thank him enough the way things ended up. He didn't try to squeeze more money out of me like other dealers had been known to do. I won't mention names here but I think you know who I mean.

The S1000RR has breathed new life into my passion for motorcycles. It's just as exciting as the first time I threw my leg over my Triumph Cub many years ago. With this bike BMW is showing the world that it knows how to build fantastic, well thought out motorcycles. And it's also put the other manufacturer's of sport bikes on notice that while they were trying to work there way through gloomy economic times, BMW was hard at work preparing to show the rest of the motorcycling world that they're serious about carving out a portion of the market that they are here to stay. I never thought that I would ever buy a BMW motorcycle because they didn't build the kind of bike that I was interested in. That has now changed.
